Thanks to a the perfect storm of generosity, luck, Southwest points, and determination, I got to travel to NYC to the room where it happens and see Hamilton with the original cast. Lin Manuel Miranda's first Tony-winning musical, In the Heights, was my obsession in high school; I can still rap "96,000" from memory. When hearing he was coming out with another show, I scavenged for every bit of intel I could find. When the cast album finally came out I memorized every word (minus the insanely fast raps, still working on those) Seeing the meteoric rise and success of Hamilton for my theatre idol has been a joy to watch. And seeing it live was just as life changing as I hoped. It lived up to the unreal amount of hype.
For those that are not theatre nerds, I also got witness the beautiful and moving 9/11 memorial and explore Central Park with Chris Briggs, my uber talented friend from Harding who is taking NYC by storm. Also I ate far too much food, including the quintessential NYC desert, a $6 2oz cup of artisan rice pudding. No regrets. And to top it off I got to visit the creative world changers at charity: water and toured their inspiring office. They are changing the non-profit game; they just released a Virtual Reality documentary and it's mind-blowing. (I'm pledging my birthday to provide clean water to communities around the world. New York, If you keep hosting the best theatre has to offer with a side of mouth watering deserts I'll keep coming back.
